Mphenyashilu – Standing Up Against Bullying in South African Schools

Our Story

Stop Bullying in South African Schools

Together, We Can Say “Not in This School!”

At Mphenyashilu, we are not just an organisation — we are a powerful anti-bullying movement rooted in community, compassion, and courage. Our name, Mphenyashilu (meaning “The Bully” in North Sotho/Sepedi), reflects our mission: to directly confront the issue of bullying and dismantle the culture that allows it to persist in schools across South Africa.

We believe every child deserves to learn in a safe, supportive, and respectful environment. Through awareness, education, storytelling, and activism, we’re inspiring learners, educators, and families to take a stand.

Our Mission

Bullying is a serious issue affecting the mental, emotional, and academic well-being of learners. Our mission is to:

  • Raise awareness about the real-life effects of bullying.

  • Equip learners with tools and confidence to stand up against it.

  • Provide schools with resources and strategies to build inclusive, respectful environments.

  • Spark national conversations through books, merchandise, stage plays, and school visits.

Our Story

Founded by passionate South Africans who’ve witnessed the damaging effects of bullying, Mphenyashilu was created to ignite change in classrooms and communities. What started as a simple idea quickly grew into a registered company, a published multilingual book, a sold-out theatre production, and a nationwide movement.

From township schools to city institutions, Mphenyashilu is on the ground, reminding every learner: You are not alone.

Why Choose Mphenyashilu?

  • Locally Founded, Nationally Focused: Proudly South African and committed to making change in our schools.

  • Proven Impact: Our materials are used in schools across the country with real results.

  • Inclusive Approach: We address bullying from all angles — victim, bully, bystander, and community.
